Lemongrass also called fever grass, is a perennial plant. The lemongrass plant derives its name from its distinct lemony scent and taste. It is indigenous to India and other areas of the Asian continent including Vietnam Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand Malaysia, the Philippines and Sri Lanka. It was first introduced to the Indian subcontinent about 1, 000 years ago. India held most of the lemongrass trade in the 1950s. The cultivation of lemongrass is most popular in England, India Paraguay, Sir_ Lanka, and China. It is also one of the most exported crops of Africa. The lemongrass is a medicinal herb, a very popular herb in Jamaica it is used very widely for all kinds of ailments. It is a natural remedy for various diseases.

It can be made into a tea and its oil used in many remedies. The tea aids weight loss, and given its ability to lower blood sugar, it can be a good supplement treatment for diabetes. Studies have shown that the tea can fight hypertension and cancer as well. Lemongrass tea can also boost the health of your skin and hair. Can help relieve abdominal issues ( like stomach cramps and pain ), cough, cold, and even exhaustion. The essential oil is used as aromatherapy to relieve muscle pain,  to help your digestive system it can also be used for homemade deodorizers soap, fragrance, cosmetics. The plant is also used in foods and beverages as a flavoring, there are several other ways this plant can be utilized.

Lemongrass is nervine and has been proven to be a tonic for the nervous system. It stimulates the mind and helps in combating convulsions, nervous neuronal disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. It is used in therapeutic baths, which assist in calming the nerves and alleviating the symptoms of anxiety and fatigue caused by stress.

2. Heals Cold & Flu

Lemongrass has antibacterial and antifungal properties that help you cope with cold, cough, fever and flu. It is loaded with vitamin C that boots your immune system to fight the infection. Lemongrass can be effective in breaking down mucus and phlegm buildup, which can alleviate problems with breathing. This is mainly beneficial when suffering from bronchitis or asthma. Boil a few fresh strands of lemongrass, two or three cloves, a small piece of cinnamon stick, one teaspoon of turmeric powder in a cup of milk. Strain and drink it when it cools down. Another study provides supporting evidence that demonstrated the efficacy of lemongrass over thyme, patchouli, and cedarwood oil in their treatment of various diseases such as oral or vaginal candidiasis.

Regular consumption of lemongrass tea helps cleans and detoxify the body.
