Everyone wants skin as flawless as possible, and so do you. But you need to provide some nourishing daily to your skin for it to have a healthy glow. Have you ever heard of the term milia? First, let me tell you what's milia _it's a group of small solid white keratin-filled cysts which are formed under the skin. And they usually appear when keratin remains stuck below its surface. Well, keratin is a strong protein found in the tissues of the skin cells hair and nails. These cysts look like pimples and they are easy to notice. They are quite common in newborn babies ( often disappear within a few weeks), but can affect people of all ages. In adults, the condition may persist for months, even years. It can be caused by factors like use of heavy, pore_clogging skin care products, sun damage, blistering injuries, and long_turm use of steroid creams. Generally, milia cysts are neither itchy nor painful.
Here are some simple, natural home remedies
1. Tea Tree Oil
Regular application of tea tree oil can help dry up the small white milia bumps. Moreover, it works as a natural disinfectant for your skin. You just need to clean your face thoroughly and then dab a little tea tree essential oil on the affected area once daily, preferably at night before going to bed. Rinse your face in the morning. Continue this home treatment until you see improvement.
2. Baking Soda
Take sufficient amount of baking soda and add water to make a thick paste. Apply it all over the affected area and wait until it gets dry. Then, wash it off with lukewarm water.
3. Lemon
The citric acid in lemon helps open the pores, dries the excess oil and helps remove dead skin cells. You can rub a lemon slice gently on your face. Moreover, squeeze a lemon and add a pinch of salt to it. Soak a cotton ball in it and dab on milia prone skin. Leave it for 20 minutes. Then, rinse the face with warm water.
4. Honey
Honey helps treat milia due to its antioxidant and humectant properties ( retains moisture and avoids dryness). It also can be combined with another ingredient to make a facial scrub to exfoliate your skin and reduce milia. Simply spread honey, preferably raw honey, on your face. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse it off. Do this daily until you see improvement.
5. Jojoba Oil
Alternatively, mix two tablespoons of honey and one tablespoon of jojoba oil. Apply it on your face and wash it off after 25_ 20 minutes. Repeat daily three or four times a week until you see improvement.
6. Sandalwood and rose water
A combination of sandalwood and rose water helps get rid of excess oil and remove dead skin cells, they are also reducing milia as well.
1. Mix two tablespoons of sandalwood powder with sufficient rose water to make a smooth paste.
2. Spread this paste evenly on your skin and leave it on for about 15 minutes.
3. Wash it off with cool water and then pat dry your face.
4. Do this daily for a few weeks
7. Tomato
Tomato contains abundant vitamin C, which makes your skin glow and reduces dullness ( 11, 12). Just cut a slice of tomato and sprinkle some sugar on it. Then, rub it on your skin. Follow this remedy for at least a month. Moreover, you can also use its pulp.
8. Facial Sauna
The heat from the sauna helps opening up the skin pores and allows the dead skin cells and clogging impurities to be removed. Steam your face carefully for 10_ 25 minutes every day, till the milk spots clear up. You can add castor oil or apple cider vinegar on your skin after steaming it. Alternatively, you can soak a towel in hot water, wring the excess water out and put it on your face. Wait till it becomes cool, and repeat the process again.
9. Roasted Pomegranate Peel Powder
Using roasted pomegranate peel powder is another popular home remedy for milia due to its antioxidant and exfoliating properties. Being rich in vitamin C, it is also good for your skin. It will also soothe acne and pimples.
1. Roast some pomegranate peels until they become dark brown and brittle, and then crush them into a powder.
2. Add a little lemon juice or rose water to two tablespoons of the powder to make a paste.
3. Gently rub it on your face. Leave it on 15_ 20 minutes by before rinsing it off. Follow this remedy a few times a week until the bumps disappear.
10. Aloe Vera
You can use aloe vera. You need to know, aloe vera contains antioxidants, tranquilizers, and healers and anti_ inflammatory skin that can handle milia with ease. Apply the middle part of aloe vera in milia area in your skin, let aloe vera absorbed by your skin overnight and wash with warm water in the morning.
